Kyle Conway

BCU MArch Architecture

Celebrating BAA Student Ambassador and BCU MArch Architecture student, Kyle Conway.

My project explores the future of building materials and looks to use the root system of mushrooms, mycelium, to recycle organic matter.

The project is a new type of recycling center, which harnesses the power of mycelium, the mycelium uses coffee grounds and paper from paper cups, to recycle them into new compostable, strong paper cups which are compostable at the end of their life.

As the recycling system is fed with material, the operation grows, using the building block cups as building blocks, the recycling center grows across Old Market street in Bristol, unlocking activities and amenities for the public as well as acting as a roadblock for Extinction Rebellion’s latest protest.
