Howells Architects

Matthew Westley is an architect and artist based in Birmingham, UK, and has served as Chair of the BAA since 2024. He joined Howells in 2015, where he played a key role in the Paradise Masterplan – one of Birmingham’s most complex and strategically significant urban regeneration projects.

Matthew has also contributed to a wide range of residential and commercial developments, including the Port Loop Masterplan, St Paul’s Quarter, and One Centenary Way.
Alongside his architectural work, he has designed several restaurants, each featuring his own vibrant and colourful murals that reflect his distinctive artistic style and creative approach.
Looking ahead, Matthew aims to remain an integral part of Birmingham’s ongoing regeneration, while also working to make art and architecture more accessible to young people.
